Waquoit Church Offers Special Jaws-Theme Worship Service on July 13

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Jaws movie, the Waquoit Church will hold a special Jaws-theme worship service on Sunday, July 13, at 10 am. The service will be held outside under the big tent at the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

The fun, family-friendly service will include singing and a sermon based on themes in the Jaws movie. Refreshments will be served following the service.

“Jaws was such an iconic movie that we wanted to use it as a theme for a summer worship service,” said The Rev. Nell Fields, minister of the Waquoit Congregational Church. “It’s amazing how many people love the Jaws movie. Some people have memorized entire dialogs from that show.”

Fields said Jaws is more than a movie about a shark. Some of the themes running through the movie have relevancy in our current culture.  “The question is, what does scripture say about these themes?”

Before the service, there will be some shark-related games and activities.  The service is opened to everyone and some seating is available. It is strongly suggested that people bring their own beach chairs for seating, though some seating will be available.

The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Is located at 131 Waquoit Hwy, East Falmouth. For more information on this service, call the Waquoit Church at 508-548-5269.
