9/11 Service Offered at Waquoit Church on 25th Anniversary

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the Waquoit Congregational Church will hold an interfaith service of remembrance and peace at 12 noon on the church lawn. The brief service will be held in the sanctuary in case of rain.

The service will include interfaith prayers of peace read by community leaders, songs of hope led by Lizzie Raider, and a flag ceremony conducted by Jeffrey Brodeur. Piper Martha Campbell will play as people assemble and depart.

In addition, service dogs with the Companion Animal Program will be present in solidary of the many service animals that served with recovery efforts in New York and the Pentagon.

“We wanted to offer the public an opportunity to gather in community to remember 9/11, and also to hear words and music of peace and hope,” said The Rev. Nell Fields, minister of the Waquoit Church.  “The events of 9/11 shaped many of us, and we need to continue to draw on the lessons of that day, not only to remember those we lost, but to reaffirm our commitment to peace, compassion, and to one another. We are stronger together; all of us.”

The service, which will last approximately 30 minutes, is open to the public. The Waquoit Church is located at 15 parsons Lane at the corner of Route 28 in the historic village of Waquoit.

For more information, contact Rev. Fields at 339-927-8972.
